Flaxseed Meal
I'd like to tell you about all the nutritional value in flax seed meal. I use it everyday at breakfast in my oatmeal (3 Tbps). The brand I use, Red Mill Flaxseed Meal has 3 grams of protein, 4% iron and other goodies in a 2 Tbsp serving. The benefits of flax seed could help you improve digestion, give you clear skin, lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, reduce sugar cravings, balance hormones, fight cancer and promote weight loss plus so much more!
Cardiovascular Benefits: The omega-3 fatty acid in flaxseeds can be helpful to the cardiovascular system. They help prevent inflammation and protect the blood vessels from inflammatory damage. Protecting our blood vessels from inflammatory damage is also provided by the lignans in flaxseeds. The lignans can inhibit the formation of platelet activating factor (PAF). PAF is known for its ability to cause platelet aggregation, and inflammation. PAF also plays a role in different inflammatory diseases, such as bronchial asthma. The anti-inflammatory benefits of flaxseed go further than just cardio benefits. By keeping inflammation down and adding antioxidant protection your body is also protected against type 2 diabetes, asthma, obesity, and metabolic syndrome.
Cancer Prevention: The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits of flaxseeds also make them a candidate for cancer prevention. That's because chronic inflammation and chronic oxidative stress are risk factors for cancer development. From flaxseeds, evidence of risk reduction is strongest for breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer.
Lowering Cholesterol: Intake of flaxseeds has also been shown to decrease the ration of LDL to HDL cholesterol.
Blood Pressure: Studies have shown the ability of increased omega-3 fatty acid can help regulate blood pressure and help to reduce the blood pressure also. With flaxseeds excellent content of the omega-3 fatty acid it can help us decrease our risk of high blood pressure.
